Indigenous Peoples' Celebration

Heartland Farm has been working with Land Justice Futures(https://www.landjusticefutures.org/) to work towards restoration and right relationship around "our" lands as we move into the future. Every year for Indigenous Peoples' Day we celebrate them through an event like this.

On October 11th from 6-7:30PM we will be celebrating Indigenous Peoples’ Day with a performance, educational explanations and Q&A by the World Champion Wichita War Dancer. Refreshments will be available.

This event will be outdoors. If there is inclement weather, this event will be relocated to the Motherhouse in Great Bend, 3600 Broadway Ave.

About the Wichita War Dancer:

He is of the Tohono O’Odham and Ponca Nations and has been performing the War Dance for several years. The War Dance was created by the Ponca Nation and the dance has spread throughout Native territories. The Wichita War Dancer has a deep passion for not only performing but educating people about the native life and it’s beautiful history. He feels a responsibility to his ancestors to share and preserve the native culture.

The Wichita War Dancer has travelled across the world and enjoys the opportunity to perform at many events making new relationships and connecting people to Native heritage. In 2021 the Wichita War Dancer received the highest honor in winning the prestigious “World’s Fancy War Dance Championship Title”.
